The second is that it is likely to cost as much or more to buy a replacement RAM module through a retail channel as it would to by the entire Pi with a bigger RAM module.and if you buy the entire Pi, then you have two of them instead of one. The first is ownership of the required equipment, which is neither cheap nor commonly owned by individuals. There are two problems with this scenario. In theory, on the other Pi4Bs, if you have an industrial grade rework station and the knowledge to use it, plus a retail source for the specific model of RAM modules used on the Pi (memory timings are in the firmware, which you can't modify, so substituting a different module wouldn't *work*), you could-in theory-swap RAM modules. To upgrade a Pi4B4 to a "Pi4B8", you would have to use the newer (v1.4) PCB, which means building an entire new Pi. How would you connect an additional RAM module? There is also the minor point that the Pi4B8 has a modified power system to provide additional power for the 8GB RAM module. I think you need to take a very close look at the Pi4B that you have. ![]()
